Q: Is it pork we are not to eat according to the Old Testament????? But Yahshua = said in the new testament itís not what we put in our mouths to eat that defiles us but what comes out of our mouth from our heart that defiles!!!!

So does this mean heís saying its ok to eat pork??????††††† Larry C

See second answer below this one

A:Yes, you are right, of course.  YaHshua was not talking about food.  Some say He was talking about food, and so He meant you should go out and have yourself a big fat pork stake, a vulture or two on the BBQ, right?

No, He was putting out priorities in order.  Too many were making things, even food, a religious obligation.   The health laws outlined for the people of Israel were not to harm them, but for their own good, their physical wellbeing.  Some had spent more time in getting that part of their lives in order while forgetting about the spiritual side.  He was making a point.  And, no, he is not saying it is alright to eat pork, but that you should be more concerned for your spiritual wellbeing than your physical.   The food is not the religion.  But, it would be foolish for someone not to pay attention to the things our Creator instructed the people of Israel in.

Look, I say that you should be careful about what you put into your body and someone else says that is nonsense, our Lord cleaned all meat.  Really?  Did you know that it was not until around the 12th century it was discovered that Pork was the reason for million dying at an early age because of a parasite common to the pig?  When this was discovered then it was the medical people that gave to command to cook pork all the way through.  Had these people obeyed the food laws, not for religious purposes but for health purposes they would have live much longer.  Medical science takes all the credit for exposing the pig as and unclean animal and how to keep eating it just by over cooking it.  But wait, what happens to the parasite?  Oh, it dies in the overcooked pig flesh and then you eat it, parasites and all.  Swine flu, ring a bell.

We do not need to make food our religion.  Now, show me where our Lord says, "Eat pig"?  Where does he or any of his Apostles instruct us to eat rats and snakes?  Only in the book of Acts, where Peter is shown a vision, and in this dream he is commanded by God to eat of the unclean animals He show him, "Take and eat", He commands, but three times Peter refuses.  What's wrong with this picture?  Was God trying to show Peter that all meats are clean now?  No, the whole vision was about three Gentiles on their way to see him.  The Jews treated and saw Gentiles as unclean and the faithful would not associate with these unclean pagan worshipers.  Even those converted to the Jewish religion, in that day, were not allowed into the main room of the synagogue, and in another place we are told that it was not "lawful" for a Jew to go into a Gentiles house.  This whole presentation was aimed at impressing upon Peter that these men coming to him were not to be considered "unclean" and he was to go with them.  Never on this occassion does Peter at any time "take up and eat", in direct disobedience to the command to "take and eat".  Peter knew the truth in the Word and that this had to mean something else, God would not contradict Himself, of this Peter was sure, so he did not do as commanded but it did trouble him, until, that is, the three Gentiles came knocking.

(Act 10:28)  And he said unto them, You know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God has shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

Paul never took up knife and fork and ate of the unclean animals and here he explains the meaning of the dream he was given.   Jews were

There is another place where it seems to be saying we can eat whatever we want -- and really were can, we are free to eat whatever we want, but it may not be too beneficial, it may cause us to have certain physical problems later -- still some use this verse that says if we pray over it, or the praryer of thanksgiving then the unclean meat is made clean.  This, however did not work out so well for the English Christians that died unnatural death do to parasite infestations.  If one reads the verse some use to convince others it is perfectly alright to eat all the unclean animals you want, you will see what it really says -- here is the verse used so often:

(1Ti 4:4)  For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:  Sounds good, right?  But let's go back and add the previous verse to this instruction --
(1Ti 4:3) Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God has
created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. -- And what food were CREATED to be received with thanksgiving?  We are given a list of food created for this purpose.

We are free to do as we please but our common sense and our spiritual sense tells us what is right and what is wrong.  We would be foolish to toss aside the list provided by our Creator and given to another people, He called His people, for their benefit.  You know why He told them to follow those rules governing foods and how to handle them, He said, "Because you are a Holy people to Me".

Arenít we told that no unclean thing will be allowed to enter the Kingdom of God on Earth?  Arenít we the representative body of the Christ, the Church on Earth, the representative KINGDOM, arenít we?And we still have unclean animals and birds, all around, right? All of the meat markets are happy to sell you cheap meats that are cataloged as unclean, not by man but by YaHWeH Himself, right?Hear what YaHWeH has to say, not man, but Yahweh, given to Moses to record for all to read.We find a hard copy of this log of animals considered clean and unclean. Unclean means, not fit for human consumption Ė Leviticus Chapter 11.Notice, it is YaHWeH talking to Moses and Moses recording what he is told.

What our Lord meant had nothing to do with food, it had to do with a spiritual allegory Ė a lesson with spiritual implications.Letís not forget, YaHshua had a previous existence. In His previous Glory He, YaHshua, was YaHWeH, the creator of all things Ė Hebrew 1:1-2, John 1:1-3.

As the representative Kingdom on Earth, it is not food we worship, or treat a something to be worshiped but we should consider what is classified as unclean by our Creator, the Creator of all things for different purposes. All of that aside, letís consider the actual fulfillment of His Kingdom to come, when the New Jerusalem comes (the Bride Ė Rev 21:2 & 22:17) just listen to this pronouncement concerning the end of Babylon -- what is it that is to live in her? This is for any of you that think there is no such thing as clean and unclean animals, because JESUS cleaned them all.My Savior is YaHshua and He in His previous Glory told us that there are unclean animal and here in the Book of Prophecy we are told a time is coming when the fallen Babylon will become a dwelling place for all things unclean.

(Rev 18:2)  And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

Some people eat frogs legs, are they clean now?  If so, then why are three unclean spirits compared to frogs?

(Rev 16:13)  And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

No matter what, there is still an element of uncleanness in the world.  Just as we watch our diet and bath regularly and avoid certain things to remain clear of diseases and other things resulting from unclean living we should all the more be concerned about living a clean spiritual life.  Which is more important?  That is the point our Lord was making, it was not about making all foods clean, even today we know they are not.  Vultures and not clean birds and rats are not clean animals, but people do eat them.

(2Co 6:16)  And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God; as God has said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be you separate, says the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,   And will be a Father unto you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.

Also, the verses you speak of, concerned the washing of hands, not eating pig.

(Mat 15:20)  These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defile not a man.

Of course you and I are free to do as we please, after all, children of the King are not under law.  Still we obey the law of the land we live in so as not to offend.  In our freedom we are to see this as freedom from all religion and religions.  Why set aside (temporarily) the law of Moses just to take on the Laws and Customs of men?  That is exchanging one set of chains for another.  Our freedom, if you can hear is, is much more than becoming a prisoner to another set of laws and rules as men teach.  Of course, to have no order of conduct at all is not beneficial so we need to live a clean life, morally, and spiritually.

Second Answer:

Hi Larry, Thanks for taking the time to write.  We must not forget the spiritual lessons far exceed the physical.  The Health laws provided to the people of Israel did not apply to the gentile nations around them unless one or more wanted to join Israel as a nation dedicated to YaHWeH, then all of the civil laws, the religious laws and the health laws would apply.  The religious leader during the time our Savior spoke to them had turned the Law into their religion giving their Creator second standing after the Law.  YaHshua tell us in his time in the flesh that the Law would not end until "all was fulfilled".  Looking at the prophetic words of the OT we see a lot of things not yet fulfilled or finished, and the earth is still here.

(Mat 5:18)  For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

The verses you are mentioning had to do with eating with dirty hands, the Disciples were eating corn, not meat.  When Peter was commanded to eat of the unclean animals, three time, he refused.  Imagine, an Apostle of our Lord refuse a direct command to take and eat.  This vision Peter experienced is used by those lusting after the flesh of the pig, mouse, vultures (I am being sarcastic) as an excuse to say God is telling him all unclean animals are now clean.  Later Peter tells us exactly what his vision meant, and notice, Peter never did eat as commanded, in the dream and if our Lord was teaching the Health laws were abolished you would thing he would know.  Listen to Peter's explanation -- Remember, Peter thinks he is speaking with YaHshua in this vision -- the very person the pig lusters say made all meat clean --

(Act 10:14)  But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

Then Peter, after his refusal to obey, because he knew there had to be to this than eating meats and he trouble over it, looking for the explanation.  The it came to him --

(Act 10:28)  And he said to them, You know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

The Jews, even the Disciples were very prejudiced against the Gentiles, regarding them as unclean.  This was not about meats at all but about doing the business of getting the Gospel out to ALL men, not just Jews.  The Disciples still had a problem with this so Paul was raised up as the Apostle top the Gentiles.  Even then, Paul went to his own people first, event though YaHshua told him he was to go to the Gentiles.

Looking back at your question and seeing it is a lesson of priorities, to be clean is right and good, but this is not what really pollutes a man or woman in the eyes of God.  Again, this is not talking about unclean meats, but uncleanliness in general.  The dirty ditch digger, as a believer, has as much access to our heavenly Father as the man taking showers every hour.  The Jewish religious leaders, however, had turned this into a religious duty.  If YaHshua had meant unclean meat, like the pig or dogs, or rats, then certainly Peter would have known that, but still, after seeing YaHshua raised from the dead, he, Peter, refused to eat of the unclean animals presented by our Lord -- that would indeed be strange of the Lord had made all meats clean.  Of course we know that not to be the case, even today medical science warns us of certain foods to stay away from.  One of the leading food on the list for cancer patients to avoid is pork.  Shell fish as been linked to sicknesses as well, one very back sickness Alzheimer.  There is a certain time of the year, on the east coast that you cannot eat clams as they are poisonous.  When we are told the prayer over the food makes it clean, the medical scientist laugh.  When you look at the verse that says that you have take the verse before that into account, where is says --

Also read 1 Cor 8:7-9 -- reading these test verses carefully you will not be fooled by those teaching all meats are clean.  They want you to let your belly be your guide, but what Paul is teaching is to let your head, and you spirit be your guide -- he is not talking about unclean pigs but about meats that were sacrificed to idols.  Nothing to do with pigs or crab or spiders and snakes.  The congregation were fearful of the meat sold in the meat market as being unclean because it came from one of the pagan temples.  Even in the expanded teaching from Paul we see occasions when a brother might be sitting at dinner in a Temple with unbelievers and Paul's concern was a weaker brother passing by might think the wrong thing.  Remember, Paul was an Apostle to the Gentiles and would have to set down with them to give occasion to share the Message with them.  If an interested pagan was to approach him and invite him to dinner at the local temple to share his story what was he to do?  So, he gave this instruction to wise up the brethren as to what was really important.  Meats serve the body but our Spirit serves our Lord, we too need to get out priorities straight, but to say we are being more spiritual because we ignore some good advice concerning out physical health is a lie.  In this imperfect world we have to live and make the best of it, being patient for the return of our Lord to restore what needs to be restore.  For now we make the best of it, living among a wilderness of strangers, even in the church.

In giving morality teaching to the Church Paul also taught this --

(1Co 6:19-20) What? Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have of God, and you are not your own?  For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
Ask yourself, would the people of God sacrificed pigs on the Temple alter?  Now, if we are the Temple of the Living God.  You do not belong to yourself anymore but to God, and, as in all things moral, having to do with the flesh, we should be concerned.   Sexual immorality is forbidden, but was still found among some, but the eating of food was way down on the list and it is only those wanting to follow their own lust of the flesh and belly that insist you eat pork, and if pork then all other nasty creatures as well.  We are told that no unclean thing will be allowed to enter the Kingdom on Earth.

Sorry for running on so.  I am sitting in a waiting room and had time to spare.  I am happy to answer any question and to receive comments you may want to share at any time.  Thanks again for writing, your servant, Dan.
